In front of the Reunification Palace
This Iconic Landmark was once the President's seat and marks the end of the Vietnam War
The inside is maintained beautifully with incredible architecture, and stepping into the Reunification Palace transported it us into a time period that my own parents lived.
We also visited the bunkers down the basement where war maps were still hanging on the walls. It was quite tight underneath the basement and hot as well with poor ventilation. It was quite an experience.

Statue of Virgin Mary in front of Notre Dame Cathedral
As you can see, the time we visited Ho Chi Minh, Notre Dame Cathedral was under renovation, and therefore, we were not able to step into the church.
There is an ongoing comprehensive restoration that began in 2017 and is projected to contrinue through 2027.
During restoration, the cathedral grounds and its square remain accessible, with Sunday Mass held in both Vietnamese and English at 9:30am

Statue of Virgin Mary in front of Notre Dame Cathedral before restoration
My own mother was baptized in this cathedral, so this place holds a meaningful place in our heart. It is a place for calm reflection or cultural learning, deeply tied to Saigon's colonial and religious history.

In front of the Central Post Office
The Central Post office stands as one of Southeast Asia's most iconic colonial-era landmarks. It was built between 1886 and 1881, by French Architect Alfred Foulhoux.
The post office has an eclectic mix of French colonial, Gothic, Renaissance, and Khmer motifs. Its ornate yellow façade showcases a central clock and arched windows.
Stepping inside, we are greeted with vaulted ceiling, iron pillars, with an airy, light-filled space reminiscent of grand European stations.
There is a large portrait of Ho Chi Minh on the far wall as well as vintage antique telephone booths.

In front of the Saigon Opera House
The Opera house is located near the Central Post Office. It was built between 1898 and 1900 by the French architect Félix Olivier, modeled after the the Opéra Garnier and le Petit Palais in Paris, France.
The façade boast intricate stone carvings, statues, arched windows.
Unfortunately, we could not go inside because it was closed. However, the Opera House continues to host a range of performances from circus, dances, and symphony nights offering something for every generations.

US Air Force Airplane in front of the War Remnant Museum
Though included in the tour, we opted out because my husband, my father-in-law, my brother-in-law, and my father went to the War museum the day before.
The War Remnant Museum is one of Vietnam's most visited and significant museums, drawing an estimated 500,000 visitors annually.
It opened on September 4, 1975 as the "Exhibition House for US and Puppet Crimes" , and twenty years later, in 1995, it was renamed the War Remnants Museum following US diplomatic relationships.
The outdoor exhibition displays the UH1 "Huey" helicopter, M48 Patton tank, Planes, artillery, and other wartime equipment.

What you will see on the interior Galleries-
-Ground floor- Focuses on international solidarity- poster, documents, photographs, memorabilia that illustrate global protest and support against US involvements in VN.
-First floor- Exhibits like "War Crimes" and the consequences of Agent Orange, with shocking photos, preserved specimens, and artifacts documenting the devastating human and environmental impact.
-Second Floor- Features the Requiem Gallery, a moving tribute to fallen war journalists.

Jade Emperor
The pagoda was founded in 1909 by a Cantonese Chinese immigrant, Luru Minh, and reflects the fusion of Taoist, Buddhist and Confucian beliefs. It Vietnamese Buddhist name, Phước Hải Tự, was adopted in 1984, though the locals still refer to it as Jade Emperor Pagoda.
Designed with traditional Chinese architectural flair, it features brick construction and a yin-yang tiled roof, accented with colorful ceramic statues at the corners.
The Pagoda houses around 300 statues, including 100 intricate paper-mâché figures depicting meetings in the heavenly court.
As you enter, you will remove your shoes, and make sure your shoulders are covered. The halls are dimly lit and filled with incense smoke that contribute to a mystical vibe.
NOTE- Barack Obama visited the Jade Emperor Pagoda in 2016 to highlight its cultural and spiritual significance.
This site offered a deeply cultural and spiritual experience, where we were immersed in the presence of deities through intricately carved wooden statues. Their exquisite detail invite reflection on the remarkable craftsmanship and artistic sophistication of ancient generations or shall I dare to mention ancient civilizations.

The Lacquerware Workshop
This Lacquerware Workshop was our last stop. My parents were getting tired, and we were running out of time as well. We were given a tour of the place and a lady gave us a quick history lesson behind the Lacquerware art and production
They had all their art for sale. It was quite beautiful, and the store could ship worldwide. However, with the limited time in the shop, we did not really have time to ponder and select a piece. We wanted to, but we did not want to rush our selection. I told myself that I would return to pick an art piece for our living room, unfortunately, I never went back.
